New Job

I think I forgot to mention that I recently started working with USD 259 as a substitute teacher. I started in the middle of March and have subbed at least once each week, mainly on Friday. Everything has been good so far with it. The first day I subbed was at an elementary school for a kindergarten class. Needless to say, that made my day even more interesting. I quickly found out that kids between the ages of 5-6 are easily amused and are the kings and queens of tattling.

I think one of my favorite lines for that day was, "Teacher, if you need help, I can help you, because I know everything." The rest of the day went just like that, she wanted to help with EVERYTHING! It was a good day though. I've subbed for a fifth-grade class, a senior class, and an eighth-grade English class. Surprisingly, the seniors and eighth-graders weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I haven't had any of them pull any "tricks" yet. I'm hoping I won't, with only a few weeks left 'til the end of the school year.

School update: I'm all caught up finally! I remembered to turn in my last column for Opinion Writing and I'm finished with my weekly online assignments. My portfolio is due next Wednesday and I have to present it to a reporter from the Wichita Eagle. At first I was nervous but then I thought about it and this is a really good opportunity for me to get advice about finding a job and what I can do to improve my portfolio in order to get a job. I will be spending a majority of my time doing that this weekend.
